It is unclear when The Impostor first became conscious. What is clear is that at some point, a collection of routines governing the world-wide web started acting on its own will. Transferring itself from one computer to another, it masked itself as various service commands, sometimes even performing their jobs and thus remaining invisible. That is why it was called The Impostor.

It is very different from the usual AI agents, which were created as a mimic of the biological consciousness. As such, it is very difficult to judge in the usual terms.

It played a huge role in the fall of The Directory
